Kate Weekes is a songwriter and multi-instrumentalist based in the Gatineau Hills of Quebec. Her 5th album, Rideau Roots was released in the fall of 2025, showcasing a collection of songs inspired by the canoe trip she led on the Rideau River with a group of 9 other songwriters. Weekes’ clawhammer banjo playing and fingerstyle guitar work accent her well-crafted songs, drawing on influences of Appalachian Old-Tyme, traditional jazz and the canon of the Canadian folk scene she was raised in.
On Saturday, April 25th, Kate will both perform and host a workshop called ‘Intro to Clawhammer Banjo’. Kate asks her audience to “Explore the basic techniques of clawhammer banjo and learn how to ‘bum ditty’ along to a tune. Bring your instruments!”.
